An update about what’s coming:

"preparations for Starfox amigurumi"

A Starfox, Fox McCloud amigurumi! I already bought yarn for the project, beautiful Letit Lopi, Icelandic wool, in a great store in Zwolle, Astrid’s wol.  I love the beautiful warm colours the Lopi yarn comes in. After that I’m going to make a crochet Valais black nose sheep.

I got the idea last year when we where in Switzerland. They’re so cute and I needed to make a crochet version of one. This yarn also comes from that shop in Zwolle.

I also want to make a red panda amigurumi. But first I’m making these two, of course after I’ve finished the little bear. And for all these projects, I will post the patterns here!

Yarn experiment….

….while making my little bear pattern.

I’m working on a crochet pattern for a little teddy bear amigurumi. It’s a pattern I’ve worked on before and there are already a few little bears. To finally get the pattern right, a new bear must be made. That creates a nice opportunity to try out some special kinds of yarn. This is the yarn:

Wol voor beertjes

The colours are very autumn, really my favourites! It’s Phildar yarn, bought in a local shop, in Haren, near Groningen in the Netherlands.

I have an image in my mind of how I think and hope the bears will turn out, but have no idea if I’m correct….not kitschy I hope. This evening I’m starting crocheting, so in a few days I’ll know! When the crochet bears are done, there will be pictures and the pattern of course.

Sheep special

A tribute to sheep, providers of the wool I love to use.  When looking through my pictures, I ran into some beautiful pictures of sheep, taken in different countries and in different seasons. When looking at these pictures I got the idea to add the sheep special.

In the pictures you can see different races of sheep. Some pictures are kind of crappy, but the sheep in them are very beautiful. (Click on the pic to enlarge.)

Crochet, wool, sheep!

This is a blog about crochet. My favourite material to crochet with is wool. So when I met the sweetest male sheep in the world, I decided to dedicate a post to him. 

We went to the Dutch island Terschelling this weekend, to hike and go cycling. On our way to one end of the island, we saw a dead sheep. Well, that’s what I thought, because there was one sheep just laying there weird in the grass near a parking space. It made me feel sad how he just seemed to be thrown out there.

BUT, on our way back, there he was, standing there, eating some grass. He wasn’t dead at all! So I had to go to him and see if I could cuddle him. He was a big male sheep and he was happy to see me and actually ran towards me when I approached! So utterly cute, usually sheep are very curious but shy. This one wasn’t. He was sweet and put his head against my legs. Somehow this sweet and cuddly sheep made me feel sad in a way. Who could leave a social animal like that sheep, alone next to a parking space? You could see he was lonely.

The rest of the weekend we visited him when we past him and cuddled him. We even called him Knor, because he made little noises. He was a very old sheep and when I crochet I’ll always be reminded of him. Have a good life Knor!

The first big amigurumi I made was an Amineko. When browsing online for cool patterns this funny cat kept reappearing. I liked him a lot. He was in all sorts of colours and photographed in funny ways at all kinds of locations. I needed one too! After crocheting my first Amineko I wanted to make more….of course, and also found out the designer of the pattern, Nekoyama, had made a book about him called ‘Hello my name is Amineko’. I bought the book online and love it very much. If you like books full of pic’s and crocheting, this book is perfect for you! Nekoyama thougt it was cool that when people make Aminko’s, they take pictures of him in special places and post them on the internet. I didn’t have a blog at that time but did take the pictures. Now I can finally post them on a suitable place, my first blog! In honour of Nekoyama and Amineko. (In Japenese ‘ami’ means crochet and ‘neko’ means cat).

Finally!

Finally my header is done and the blog ready for action! I had to make a suitable header first, one that made my blog ‘my blog’ and also looked good next to my website http://www.sonjakunst.com.  It took a while since I also went on holiday to Norway. I’m glad it’s finished now.  Next week there will be a lot more to see here!

In about a month my new crochet blog will be here! That means free patterns from my recent projects, tips and tricks for amigurumi, pictures and a lot more. And in time, crochet animals and dolls designed by me, from which you can buy the pattern or just ask me to make me one for you.
