Look, it’s a ……..

I had this lovely afternoon in the forest, taking pictures of my new crochet animal, surrounded by wildlife. There were lots of birds and young chicks chatting around me, bumblebees were zooming cheerfully above the ground and, a red squirrel was laughing at me from behind a tree.

Floro's-habitat

I finally managed to get a sharp picture of a squirrel, didn’t I!

While busy taking pictures of Floro and clacking away mosquitoes, I heard this strange sound behind me. Suddenly I realized that THAT’s a squirrel sound! So I turned around and saw a red squirrel spying on me from a tree. When he saw me turning around he quickly fled higher so I couldn’t see him anymore. I waited a few minutes, while being eaten, but saw him no more. A pitty, I hoped to get a picture of him, you know, me taking pictures of Floro and the squirrel who spied on us….Would be so perfect.

Well anyway, here’s a first glimpse of Floro, the pattern will be available in my shop on thursday!

What I like for my amigurumi

My new projects, including the mouse, will probably have this inside:

Pipe cleaners. Why? Well, I really love to make artistic photo’s of my crochet dolls, like the one of Teddy a few posts back. But most of the dolls I’ve made so far are a bit ‘stiff’, I can’t really let them pose properly. They can just stand or sit or whatever, but I can’t really let them hug a tree or something.

Pipe cleaners are soft, light and very flexible. You can bend them as often as you like, so they are perfectly suitable to create movable arms, legs and necks for crochet animals. If you want your ami’s to be able to ‘move’, I would recommend them together with light stuffing. That way you’ll have a very flexible fluffy friend.

p.s. That painting is finished! I know this is my crochet blog….

It’s called ‘Water Friends’ and I made it after a good memory.

But back to crochet, I hope this pipe cleaner thing will be helpful.

Bunny sketches

Here are some sketches of the design process.

A bunny has an inconvenient body shape for a crochet doll. That’s because it has an egg shape head obliquely on top of an egg shaped body. (Hopefully the sketches clarify that.) If you would crochet the head and body in two pieces, it means that the openings of both the head and body are in the wrong place, and sewing together two closed pieces gives a weird result. I did do that for crochet Boefje, but wasn’t  happy with the result because the doll has no ‘neck’. For this new bunny I had to make that look better, so decided to make a round head with a little flat muzzle to get the eggy shape.

I hope I’ll have the bunny finished soon!

Ho ho ho, merry Christmas!

"santa claus christmas painting"

No gifts Again?
Acrylic on canvas, 18 x 30 cm
By Sonja van der Wijk, me 🙂

This years Christmas card, which I’ve sent to family and friends. I’m very satisfied with it. It was quite difficult to make this paintig, because I’ve no experience in painting snow and I had some trouble with it.

The title is based on last years card, in which Santa got robbed by an UFO. I’ll add that one at the bottom of this post.

Here are some close-ups.

"reindeer rendieren red nose"

"santa clause foxes and rabbits, de kerstman"

And, last years Extraterrestrial Christmas Robbery.

"Extraterrestrial Christmas Robbery painting"

I hope these ‘ll give you a laugh!

I haven’t really started on crochet Starfox, but I will in Januari, I didn’t feel like it yet….
